Mr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two fictional characters created by Robert Louis Stevenson in his 1886 novella, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Dr. Henry Jekyll is a respected and successful physician in London, while Mr. Edward Hyde is his dark alter-ego who emerges after Jekyll takes a potion he has developed. Hyde is physically and morally repulsive, committing violence and immoral acts without remorse. As the story progresses, Jekyll struggles to control his transformation into Hyde and ultimately becomes consumed by his alter-ego. The story has been interpreted as a commentary on the duality of human nature and the consequences of repressing one's darker impulses. It has been adapted into numerous films, television shows, and other works of art.
